The R4 DS (Revolution DS officially called) is a storage device for Nintendo DS. It is mainly used to store home video games (Those made by fans) or download commercial games. Legality and Piracy

Although the R4 DS cartridge is legal, many people use the card to play pirated versions of DS games. So Nintendo has threatened legislation against R4 card manufacturers in several countries, no court has yet to say that the material itself, or homebrew software is illegal. R4 DS cartridges are mainly available for sale online, although some independent retailers to sell locally. Firmware and homebrew software is available almost exclusively for download from a number of amateur software development websites.

Format instead of the DS R4

Before R4 DS can use, you must install a MicroSD card firmware. In the past, the R4 DS comes with a CD with software that simply needs to be installed. As firmware updates to be more recent official firmware is already available online on the official R4 DS.
